LINKS TO RELATED SITES

The primary link is to the National Inventory of Canadian Military Memorial web site, but I will add others if people tell me of any other specific site has information about military memorials. In doing my research I have found many pages giving information about different memorials; Too many to list here. If you have a local site, please email the link to me and I will add it to my master list. At some point I will try to put the master list onto this page.

The Books of Remembrance contain the names of Canadians who fought in wars and died either during or after them. All the books are kept in the Memorial Chamber located in the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill. The purpose of creating a site that displays these books on the Internet is to make them more accessible to the public. Quite aptly named are these testaments to Canada's past, for by their very title they remind us to never forget the foundations of courage on which Canada is built.

Maple Leaf Legacy Project

The aim of the Maple Leaf Legacy Project is to photograph or obtain a photograph of every Canadian War Grave of the 20th Century. These photos will be made freely available on the project's web site.

Most of the families and friends of Canada's war dead have never visited and will never visit the graves of the fallen due to the distances and expenses involved. We cannot bring their bodies home for burial but we can bring photos of the graves into the homes of all Canadians. In doing so we will create a virtual Canadian National War Cemetery.

Irish War Memorials Project

This web-site presents an inventory of war memorials in the Republic of Ireland. The survey began in 2003 in the south County Dublin area, and now includes a full inventory of memorials in the county of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, carried out in conjunction with the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Heritage Project. The inventory is progressing to cover other areas, and further memorials are being added as they are recorded.

The inventory includes photographs of each memorial, the text of all inscriptions, and details of the site of the memorial. A database of all of those named allows a search for individual persons, with links to the photographs of the memorials. Many of those named on memorials are named in published lists in books, sometimes with photographs. Where this is known to be the case, the book is named and information about it is provided.
